TWITTER BUG CHANGED PRIVATE TWEETS INTO PUBLIC TWEETS

There is a privacy setting available in Twitter to make the tweets private which is very relevent feature. But now Twitter disclosed a privacy bug dating back to November 3, 2014, Which caused the Twitter for Android app to disable the "Protect your Tweets" setting for users without their knowledge, making their private tweets visible to the public.

The bug only caused for those Android users who made changes to their Twitter account settings, such as changing their email address or phone number associated with their account, using the Android app between November 3, 2014, and January 14, 2019. Apparently, on January 14, 2019, Twitter released an update for Android application to fix the bug. Twitter did not tell exactly how many Android users were affected by this bug, becuase many users had changed the account setting between these 4 years which make the issue more complicated. The new law gives European citizens the right to request for their personal data from companies, but when Twitter won't agree to this and turned down a researcher's request, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) opened an investigation. DPC is aware about the bug and commission is now looking into the matter.
